MIRA Projects is a New York-based interdisciplinary design practice and construction management studio that produces spatial and experiential projects for fashion, beauty, hospitality, and cultural brands, translating their values into tactile environments rooted in materiality, craft, and user experience.
Founded by designer, curator, and educator Komal Kehar in 2012, the practice explores how objects and environments carry cultural meaning, particularly through post-colonial and diasporic perspectives. Driven by Kehar’s research-led approach to material intelligence, artisanal and industrial processes, and sustainability, MIRA Projects’ work includes a temporary shop for a swimwear brand, a pop-up in Paris during the 2023 Men’s Fashion Week, and a 38-seat wine bar and restaurant that replaced a shuttered Starbucks in Manhattan.
Kehar is also the founder of Common Things, a design-focused boutique and curatorial platform in Manhattan’s East Village. She collaborates with designers, artisans, and publishers for exhibitions, workshops, and public programs that place makers and materials in context and foster shared learning. In 2025, she co-hosted The Shape of Care exhibition at Common Things during NYCxDesign, in collaboration with the Adaptive Design Association.
Kehar currently teaches a chair design course at FIT NYC, and was selected as one of the Female Design Council Grant finalists in 2025. She holds a Master of Architecture from the Parsons School of Design and an MA in Design Research, Writing, and Criticism from the School of Visual Arts.
